Terms of Use · Effective October 21, 2026
The fine print, in plain words.
These terms are an agreement between you and Notesmiths LLC, the makers of Visual Metronome. By using the app or this website, you agree to them. We've kept them as short and clear as we could.
Using Visual Metronome
We give you a personal, non-exclusive license to use Visual Metronome on the devices you own or control, as allowed by the store you got it from. Practice with it, teach with it, perform with it, and put it on a music stand for a whole class to see. Please don't copy, resell, or redistribute the app, or try to reverse engineer it except where the law allows.
Premium scenes
Most of the app is free, and six scenes are included. Premium scenes are one-time purchases that are yours to keep, with no subscription. Every premium scene has a live preview, so you can try it at your own tempo before you buy.
- Purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play, and their payment terms apply.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies. We can't issue refunds ourselves.
- If you reinstall the app or get a new device, your scenes come back with the same store account; on iPhone and iPad, tap Restore purchases in the scene gallery if they don't appear. Purchases belong to your Apple Account or Google account, and generally don't carry between the two.
- Prices are shown in your local currency before you buy.
Who owns what
The app, its scenes, artwork, sounds, and this website belong to Notesmiths LLC. Your recordings, tempo designs, and the names you give them belong to you. The VT Cooper Black and Bricolage Grotesque typefaces are used under the SIL Open Font License.
About timing
We've worked hard to make Visual Metronome as steady and accurate as a phone allows. Still, what you hear and see also depends on your device. Bluetooth headphones and speakers add a delay that varies by device, and a screen can only update so many times a second. For the tightest timing, use your device's speaker or wired headphones.
No warranty
We love this app and stand behind the work we put into it, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we don't make promises beyond what's written here, including that it will always be available, error-free, or right for any particular purpose.
Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Notesmiths LLC isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data, from your use of the app or this website. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app and its scenes in the twelve months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
A few things Apple asks us to say
If you got Visual Metronome from the App Store:
- These terms are between you and Notesmiths LLC, not Apple. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for the app, its support, and any claims about it, including product liability, legal compliance, and intellectual property claims.
- If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- You confirm that you aren't in a country under a U.S. government embargo, and aren't on a U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
If you got the app from Google Play, Google Play's terms of service apply alongside these.
Changes
We may update these terms as the app grows. When we do, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If you keep using Visual Metronome after a change, that means you accept the new terms.
The legal bits
These terms are governed by the laws of Minnesota, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If any part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
